About Jeff Kolodny

August 24, 2009

JEFF KOLODNY PHOTOGRAPHY, INC. is currently based in South Florida. We provide Award Winning Wedding & Event Photography both in the South Florida area and all over the world. Some of our remote locations have included: California, Vermont, New York, Washington DC, France, Jamaica, Mexico, and various Caribbean islands.

Jeff’s passion and talent for photography began right before his teen years and continued to develop in high school when he began to shoot stills and video for his high school theater department. He went on to attend ADELPHI UNIVERSITY in NY and majored in Communications & Photography. By his junior year of college, Jeff was a paid, working photographer – re-editing motion picture film and assisting a Director of Photography in the NY area.

After graduating from ADELPHI UNIVERSITY in 1985, Jeff moved to Los Angeles, CA, to gain the most experience possible by working in and around the Hollywood film industry. He started employment at WILLY LEON PHOTOGRAPHY, one of LA’s premier portrait and event wedding photographers. Next, Jeff worked as a freelance photographer for BILL SMITH PHOTOGRAPHY. Simultaneously, Jeff attained a position as a custom photographic printer and photographer for FORENSIC PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICE. At this time Jeff also became a photographer for the Los Angeles Fire Department. These positions proved to be extremely fascinating and instrumental for his career – he began to capture truly unique images, and as his talent developed, Jeff acquired a steady client base of his own.

The next step of advancement came as a custom printer at CRUSH CREATIVE, (www.crushcreative.com) one of the most prestigious labs in the country. He printed murals and fine art photographs for many Hollywood film and TV studios, including Universal Studios, Paramount, Warner Brothers, Disney, and NBC. In addition, Jeff printed and created photography for Jay Leno’s “The Tonight Show” as well as printed and shot images for NASA and other government agencies. CRUSH CREATIVE afforded Jeff the opportunity to work with the best of the Hollywood entertainment business. The top photographers in the world used CRUSH CREATIVE, and eventually, their work fell into Jeff’s hands. During the three years he worked at CRUSH CREATIVE, Jeff printed images from Andre DeDienes, one of Marilyn Monroe’s first photographers, Herb Ritts, Annie Leibovitz, and many others. He studied what comprised a truly great photograph, and he learned how to shoot for proper color balance, contrast, and skin tones. His education about photographic chemistry grew rapidly as well.

Jeff started his own business, JEFF KOLODNY PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO, in 1993, offering both photography and video services. As Jeff’s skills and talents grew so did his client list, which includes The Los Angeles Times, OPI, Dermalogica, Playboy, The Los Angeles Fire Department, Honda Motor Company and many more.

In addition he has been published in many well-known magazines such as Vogue, Elle Cosmopolitan & Playboy. He has also been published in several professional photography books such as The “Best of Professional Digital Photography” (by Amherst Media) as well as the “Wedding Photographers Handbook.”

Currently located in South Florida, JEFF KOLODNY PHOTOGRAPHY, INC. continues to provide exceptional, professional, and unique photographic services. Each event is covered with precision and extraordinary attention to detail, while consistently offering custom-designed options to commemorate that most special occasion. Cutting-edge techniques, such as infrared shooting & X-Processing and split toning are incorporated into Jeff’s art form and he delivers a first-rate product with sensational album design options.

Jeff has won several awards from Wedding Portrait Photographers International, followed by the International Photography Award and the Sibern, Best of Photography Award. He continues to win awards and his images are published in books and magazines on a regular basis. Jeff resides with his wife, Robin, and young son, Joel.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Thank you so much Jeff!

Dear Jeff

I printed out a bunch of the pictures over the weekend and took them with me when I visited some friends and family. First of all, there were so many beautiful pictures it was hard for me to pick only a few to show them. I printed out almost 400 great pictures and then had to struggle to pull out 100 to put into an album so I wouldn't overwhelm everyone. Everyone who saw those pictures was AMAZED. That isn't even close to an exaggeration. I heard people swooning over the infrared shots and how I looked like a "princess" and they loved the snow effect. I heard people commenting on the beautiful colors and the very cool fish eye lens shots. Everyone was constantly giving compliments to the photographer and his great eye! They literally loved everything.

Again, thank you so much Every time I look at the pictures I am so touched and find new things I love about them. I am SO HAPPY that I picked you to photograph this huge day for us. It really was one of the best decisions I have ever made (besides agreeing to marry Elad!) I am very proud to have your photographs as a memory and I am going to sing your praises to anyone willing to listen!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
- Shawn

Michele & Daniel’s Wedding (Slide Show)

August 1, 2008

Albert had a great time photographing Michele and Daniel’s ceremony at St. Joan of Arc Church in Boca Raton and wedding reception at the Delray Beach Marriott. Weddings at the Delray Beach Marriott are lovely! The hotel is right across from a big, wide beach – very convenient and great for photos. It was a lucky day – the rain held off and Albert was able to photograph the bride and groom in infrared in some great spots near the hotel that make for some really beautiful photos (see below). J. Morgan Flowers did a wonderful job with the floral arrangements and there were some interesting musical interludes during the reception, such as the groom jamming with the band!
Thanks to Michele and Daniel for such a terrific day!

Infrared Wedding Photography

January 22, 2008

The “Other” Black & White

Anticipated. Cherished. Timeless. Your wedding day. For nearly every bride it is the moment in which perfection meets bliss. Wedding Photography preserves the memories and offers a sentimental glimpse of the bride’s most heartfelt journey.

Over the years, wedding photographers have graduated to a more stylized expressive technique, incorporating cutting-edge, ultra-chic snapshots with a unique design form and artistic flair. In fact, the wedding images are actually compiled to present more than just a catalog of wedding pictures; wedding albums now tend to convey the “total experience” of the bride and groom – their personal experience. From the “behind the scenes” pre-ceremony stages to the final dance of the evening, successful photographers capture each segment of this fantastical celebration. Digital photography has virtually replaced film, offering the unlimited ability to transform the wedding images in order to propel the actualities of the day to new, more amazing artistic heights.

Color wedding images are often blended with black and white or sepia tones to further create a unique appearance; however, the line of creativity doesn’t stop there. So, what is this “other” black and white? It is infrared photography, a separate and distinct method of shooting photographs. Although in existence for seventy years, infrared photography is making a comeback into the world of wedding photography. This rare and favorably stylized art form offers an additional option for highlighting those extraordinary moments.

At first glimpse, infrared wedding photography looks similar to traditional black and white wedding photography. Upon closer inspection, though, infrared’s unusual tonality is recognized and often appreciated. Objects that are normally bright in visible light (such as sky) appear dark, and objects that are typically dark (such as green and brown foliage) acquire a luminous glow. Infrared is almost a reversal of the image’s “normal” tones. The effects of this distinctive art produce radiant, shining greenery, darkened sky settings, and soft, delicate shadows. Infrared wedding images can be described as ethereal, dreamlike, maybe even a bit surreal. These effects gently complement the romantic mood of the wedding photographs. An outdoor nature scene, shot in infrared, gives off a winterland fantasy feel, complete with “snow-draped” trees and fluffy white greenery. Similarly, an infrared wedding portrait produces elegant, fine skin tones and curious, almost translucent eye color adaptations. Unique. Artistic. Imaginative.

Since infrared Wedding photography requires extreme technical know-how and can be extremely difficult to shoot – even under the best conditions, there are few photographers who have mastered this art form. One skilled photographer who excels in the area of infrared photography is Jeff Kolodny. With twenty-five years in business as a professional wedding photographer and award-winning recognitions, Jeff is able to offer the bride versatility. He will custom-shoot each event and then create a stylized album, designed to her liking, often incorporating infrared images into the mix. Jeff Kolodny Photography is based in South Florida. He can be reached at (561) 965-9582 or you can visit his website at www.jeffkolodny.com If you would like to see samples of his latest wedding photography feel free to visit his blog at www.jeffkolodnyphotography.com

This romantic image was taken at the beach just across the street from the Delray Beach Marriott. Notice how the leaves on the trees have a white snow-like look to them. This is one of the effects of infrared wedding photography. For this image, I created a split tone effect in which most of the image has a sepia color but the shadows have been tinted just slightly blue.

Shooting weddings at the Delray Beach Marriott is always a pleasure because of its beautiful Ocean Boulevard entrance that is lined with European style pillars and its high- class marble floors in the lobby.

If you are having a Delray Beach Marriott wedding, you are in luck because the hotel is located just across the street from the beach which makes it easy for a beach side photo shoot and the opportunity to get some really spectacular infrared wedding images.
